How is tattoo ink removed safely from the skin?

Traditionally, tattoo ink was removed from the skin by using nanosecond laser pulses (lasting millionths of a second) where the pulse durations were short enough to break up ink into particles small enough for the body to remove, but not long enough to cause thermal damage to the surrounding skin.

With newer picosecond lasers (lasting billionths of a second) the side effects of laser tattoo removal such as scarring, are further minimised, with the need of fewer treatment sessions.

What type of tattoos can be removed?

Virtually all cosmetic tattoos, including those such as those used on the lips, eyelids and eyebrows can also be removed with laser.
