Skin Warts (Viral)

Viral warts are small, non-cancerous skin growths caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). They can appear anywhere on the body, but they are most commonly found on the hands, feet, and face. Warts develop when the virus infects the top layer of the skin, causing it to grow rapidly,

Warts are contagious and can spread through direct contact or contact with contaminated surfaces.

Type of Warts:

1. Common

These usually appear on the hands or fingers and have rough, raised surface.

2. Plantar

Found on the soles of the feet, plantar wards grow inward dur to pressure from walking and can be painful.

3. Filiform

These have a thread-like appearance and commonly appear around the mouth or nose.

4. Genital

Caused by certain strains of HPV, these warts appear in the genital area and are transmitted through sexual contact.

How can we help you?

While warts often disappear on their own, but many people choose to treat them for cosmetic reasons, discomfort, or to prevent them from spreading to other areas of the body. Treatments may include:

  • Salicylic Acid - typically for common and plantar warts, softening hardened skin layers of the wart, causing it to gradually peel away.

  • Cryotherapy (Freezing) - liquid nitrogen is used to freeze the wart, causing the tissue to die and fall off. Typically, the treatment is repeated every two weeks until the wart is gone.

  • Laser Therapy - using laser to burn and destroy blood vessels that supply the wart with nutrients, causing it to die and eventually fall off. This method is generally reserved for persistent warts that are resistant to other treatments.

  • Surgical Removal - in rare cases where other treatment fails, surgical removal of warts may be necessary. This is typically done for large or very persistent warts.
